SPECIALIZED TRAINING AND READINESS SOLUTIONS Mini University is excited to move into the next phase of development of STARS. One of Mini University's Core Values is LEARNING and we have always been deeply committed to the growth and development of our Team. Over the years we have lived another Core Value, COLLABORATION, by offering high quality professional development to our early childhood colleagues in the Miami Valley and across Ohio. We have established partnerships with highly qualified instructors, almost all of whom have Masters degrees, to ensure the highest quality educational experience possible. Whether you are just beginning your career as a Teacher or Leader, or if you have decades of experience in this ever-changing profession, STARS has something to offer!
BASIC HEALTH CLASSES Ohio's child care licensing requires all early childhood professionals to take the following classes. These classes are not approved as "specialized training", because they are entry-level health classes. Certification for most classes is valid for 3 years. If you have previously taken a 6 hour class, it will expire after 3 years, and then a 3 hour review may be taken. (CPR is valid for 2 years.)

Step Up to Quality Pre-Requisites and "what counts!" It is very important to understand the PD requirements of SUTQ, so click on the above link to access information provided by the state. 10 Hours of Pre-Requisites must be taken FIRST! Pre-Requisites:
Classes offered by Mini University: Infant/Toddler Guideline Modules "count" toward the "10 hour pre-requisite" requirement for SUTQ for Infant/Toddler Teachers and Infant/Toddler Assistant Teachers. ITG Modules may also be taken by anyone else interested in SUTQ approved PD. They "count" for SUTQ credit AFTER the required pre-requisite is completed. ELCS classes fulfill the "10 hour pre-requisite" requirement for SUTQ for Preschool Teachers and Preschool Assistant Teachers. They may also be taken by anyone else interested in SUTQ approved PD. They "count" for SUTQ credit AFTER the required pre-requisite is completed. All of this is also great PD for anyone not involved with SUTQ. They ALWAYS "count" for "ODJFS in-service credit".
jfs.ohio.gov/cdc/stepUpQuality.stm Ohio's Infant & Toddler Guidelines (ITG): Why are these guidelines important? Because early experiences last a lifetime and infancy is the morning of life... The guidelines are seen as the critical first step to ensuring that all Ohio children, birth to three, have responsive, reciprocal and respectful care. And as a result of that care, children will be ready for both school and life. There are 1,892 days from the time babies are born until they enter school. This 1,892 day journey is remarkable, complex and far reaching. Approximately 150,000 babies are born every year in Ohio: who they spend time with and how they are cared for affects who they will become. This research-based professional development is targeted for PRESCHOOL, KINDERGARTEN and SCHOOL AGE teaching staff. These modules were created by the Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning. www.vanderbilt.edu/csefel |
